Our ESG Progress 2024/25
As we approach the end of a productive year, we’re pleased to share the latest developments from across our ESG and People initiatives. The progress outlined below reflects the collective commitment of our people, our partners and our business in creating a positive and measurable impact.
Supporting Our People
In September 2025, we introduced enhanced maternity and paternity pay to better support colleagues through life’s key milestones. Developed through collaboration between our Sustainability and DEI teams, this policy strengthens our commitment to social sustainability and inclusion for parents across Paragon.
Driving Responsible Business Standards
This year also marked several important milestones in our responsible business journey. We’re proud to have progressed from a Gold to a Platinum EcoVadis rating, placing Paragon within the top 1% of companies worldwide for sustainability performance. This milestone recognises the strength of our responsible business practices and the joint efforts of our ESG and Procurement teams.
We also retained our strong B rating from CDP, demonstrating continued transparency and progress in our climate reporting. Alongside this, our partnerships with Print Green, Cranfield University and JICMAIL enabled us to share knowledge, innovate and help drive higher sustainability standards across the communications and print sectors.
Progress on Our Path to Net Zero
We've continued to make strong progress on our Net Zero journey, achieving a 15% reduction in total carbon emissions compared with 2023/24, lowering our footprint to 141,006 tCO₂e. This is a 47% reduction from our 2019/20 baseline and demonstrates the strength of our long-term Carbon Net Zero strategy.
Our progress has been driven by practical changes across our operations, including significant reductions in electricity and gas use. Overall, we’ve reduced Scope 1 emissions by 61% and Scope 2 emissions by 57% since our baseline year.
Energy efficiency played a key role, with annual National-Grid-supplied energy use falling by 35% for natural gas and 25% for electricity this year. These improvements helped us reduce Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 35%, keeping us firmly on track for a 90% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030.
We also took an important step forward in renewable energy investment. In August 2025, we completed our first UK solar PV installation at our Dagenham site. Once fully active, the system will generate around 1,600 MWh of clean electricity and deliver an estimated reduction of 290 tCO₂e per year.
Reducing Waste
Our waste reduction programme continued to build momentum. This year, total generated waste fell by 18% (2,320 tonnes), contributing to a 61% reduction in Category 5 waste emissions. We achieved reductions in six out of eight waste streams and maintained a 93% recycling rate across the Group. Food waste facilities were also introduced at several operational sites in line with UK legislation.
At site level, our Sheffield site led a practical shift to repurpose waste cardboard into eco-friendly packaging material. Our Dagenham site has since adopted the same approach, resulting in a 64% reduction in cardboard waste (2,241 tonnes), reduced reliance on single-use plastics, lower packaging and waste disposal costs, and decreased Scope 3 Category 1 and 5 emissions.
Nature and Biodiversity
Our focus on enhancing natural environments has continued across several of our sites. Bristol, Sunderland, Chippenham, Luxembourg and Dagenham all dedicated areas of their grounds to create new Nature and Wellbeing spaces, meaning 55% of our UKIL sites now have enhanced green areas supporting both biodiversity and colleague wellbeing.
Building on this progress, our Lancing site launched a partnership with a local charity, Pollinator Pioneers, to support their ‘Bees & Seas’ project. Through ESG Fund support, the team is sponsoring a flower bed at a local community park, where colleagues volunteer their time to plant and maintain the area, strengthening local biodiversity and community connection.
Our ESG Fund
Our newly established ESG Fund has helped bring several site-led ideas to life this year, from creating mental health spaces to installing beehives and developing community gardens. These initiatives reflect the creativity and commitment of our people and highlight the positive impact that grassroots environmental and social action can have across our sites.
Looking Ahead
Our progress this year reflects the strength of our collective ambition and the dedication of colleagues across every area of the business. As we continue our ESG journey, we remain committed to building a stronger, more inclusive and more sustainable future for our colleagues, our customers and the communities we serve.
We’ll be sharing a deeper look at our performance, data and long-term priorities in our full ESG Report, which will be released soon.
